|

Hi everyone
My name is Jasmin and I have 2 important Questions. I hope you can help
me. First of all:
I was born in Sri Lanka and live in Germany. I was adopted when I was 3 months.
My first Question is:
I have a second name from my 'real mum', which is 'Nilanthie'. Could someone please let me know if there is a 'Sinhala Sign' for this name or how do your write is. The name means translated 'The purity'.
My second question is, why the topic at 'writing' is named with 'OLD Sinhala Numbers'. Aren't they current in Sri Lanka or do they use 'new' numbers right now?
The reason I am asking is because i will get a Tattoo with my Year of Birth (1985), so i have to know if it's current or if these are old writing styles.
Thank you in advance for your help.

This is the reply for your first qusetion. There are four letters to the word "Nilanthi" in Sinhala. These for letters sounds "Ni" "La" "N" and "Thi".
I can send a JPG file with handwritten sinhala name if you give me your e-mail address. Unfortunatly I can not attach here this forum is not allowed picture files.
I can not understand your second question properly. Could you explain a bit. I feel that surely I can help you to find a reply to that question too.
Best Regards.

|
|
Hi,
in Sri Lanka there are just the same number as in Germany 1,2,3 ...
The OLD numbers mentioned on this site are historic and there is still discussion if they where ever used in a considerable amount. Still I implemented them over here for completness and because they look really good.

Now these traditional numbers are not using in sinhala writing. Most people can not read these traditional number signs.
Apart from this numbering method there are two traditional methods for writing numbers, quantities, dates, time etc. But those methods rarely used by some astrologers in their astrological use and in the charts of ephimeris called "Litha" in sinhala.
One of these method is called as "Lith Ilakkam" ( Number signs used in Litha ) used to write dates and time.
The other method is called as "Katapayaakshara Kramaya" ( The numbering method using Ka Ta Pa Ya and other letters. That is based on a method used in Sanskrit Language. This method used to write any number in old sinhala language. |
