I am trying to type the word HELLO or WELCOME in Sinhala using a Font I downloaded (Kandy) on a Powerpoint presentation. I managed to locate all the characters I needed except the third one. The character is similar to the Kandy one when I strike the letter Y on my English keyboard but it does not have the tiny horizontal L I need to make it correct. I have tried everything on the Kandy font list including combinations with the shift key and the option key. Can anyone help me. Does another font have this character or? Many thanks in advance for your help!

Thank you for your reply wapw. I did go to the website your suggested and downloaded the .jpeg. I believe it was the words Welcome and Hello? But what I was hoping for was an actual font I could put on my computer so I could type the character I needed - the one with the tiny horizontal L - in the color and size I needed. If no one knows of one I guess I will just have to create my own .jpeg of the word Welcome in Sinhala using the characters I do have in the Kandy font and adding the horizontal L as a tiny cut and paste underneath. If someone DOES know where I can obtain the font with this character though I sure would appreciate it!

If you want just to say welcome you can use the word
But it has several meanings like accept, agree etc.

The proper way to write welcome in sinhala is which means "Cordilly Welcome". The first word means "cordially" and the rest "welcome".

There is a seperate word to say hello in sinhala. that is "Ayubowan" which means "Wish you live long." This is the way sinhalese say hello.
This word using with the sinhalese salute in ceremonial occasions. If you really need to know about that I will explain it in enother post.

Thank you again wapw! That is a good explanation of when and how the various forms of address are used. I wondered. What font did you use to type those greetings? Maybe I can eventually find it somewhere on the web.

That's a great page wapw. I missed finding it myself. If a font doesn't show up somewhere on the web, I will use this page to do cut and pastes into my Powerpoint presentation. I have a version of the Kandy font installed on my computer but the horizontal L doesn't show up. Thanks again.

You can just use ayubovan

no one really in sri lanka uses any of the other stuff, it's just formalities that perhaps in an official situation they are used.
